How Air Purification Can Help You Weather the Storm

The rapid spread of coronavirus, or COVID-19, is something that is impacting everyone across the globe. At Pyramid Heating & Cooling, we are committed to continuing to provide our customers with the highly skilled service they deserve, while taking all necessary precautions to protect our community.

Not All Indoor Air Quality Systems Are Created Equal

The first thing to understand when investigating your options is that different indoor air quality systems function in different ways and have different uses. HEPA filters, for example, are a great way to remove particulate matter from the air, but are not as effective at dealing with odors or biological contaminants. Those systems that utilize UV light to kill these contaminants are more effective, though the degree to which they help can vary depending on make and model. Though there is no definitive research at this point on the Coronavirus (they are currently working on getting testing), there are validated results showing 99%+ reductions on similar viruses such as the H1N1 and Norovirus. One Less Worry During Self-Quarantine

The indoor air quality in the average home can be as much as five times more polluted than the air outside. This statistic is troubling at the best of times, but what happens when it becomes necessary for a huge percentage of the population to work from home? If you have suddenly found that you are now working remotely, home-schooling your children, or both, ensuring that the air you breathe is as clean as possible can go a long way. Even a HEPA or activated carbon filter can help remove everyday irritants from the air such as dust, dirt, and pollen. This all on its own can be a huge relief to sufferers of allergies, asthma, and other respiratory conditions.

What You Can Do to Protect Yourself & Others

While there is no single solution that can make you or your loved ones immune to the virus, there are several steps that you can take to safeguard yourself and your community.

Officials with the World Health Organization recommend that you:

  • Wash your hands frequently, for at least 20 seconds

  • Avoid touching your face, especially your eyes, mouth, and nose

  • Sanitize frequently-used surfaces such as light switches, doorknobs, guardrails, tabletops, computers, keyboards, phones, etc.

  • Maintain a distance of six feet from people in public, particularly if they are visibly ill

  • Stay home if you are feeling sick, even very mildly
